Jormungandr, also known as the "World Serpent," was a monstrous serpent in Norse mythology. According to legend, Jormungandr was the son of the trickster god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. At a young age, Jormungandr was thrown into the ocean by Odin, the chief god of the Norse pantheon, as a means of preventing the prophecies that stated Jormungandr would be the cause of the end of the world, known as Ragnarok.

Despite being thrown into the ocean, Jormungandr continued to grow until it became so large that it was able to encircle the entire world, holding its tail in its mouth. From this position, Jormungandr was able to poison the oceans and the land with its venom, making the world a treacherous place for humans and gods alike.

Despite its fearsome reputation, Jormungandr was eventually killed by the god Thor during Ragnarok. In the final battle between the gods and the giants, Jormungandr and Thor fought fiercely, with each one ultimately killing the other. The death of Jormungandr was seen as a great victory for the gods, but it also marked the end of the world as they knew it, as Ragnarok brought about the destruction of the gods and the end of the world.
