Andvari is a dwarf from Norse mythology who was forced to give up his magical ring. In the story, the god Loki comes across Andvari in the form of a fish (a pike) and steals his ring, which is known for its incredible power. Andvari pleads with Loki to return his ring, but the god refuses and instead uses it to pay a ransom to the giant who has captured Thor. Before it was taken Andvari managed to curse the ring which was passed down through various hands causing misfortune and strife to anyone who possesses it.
The tale of Andvari serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and the importance of treating others with respect.
