Andvaranaut was the small golden ring owned by the dwarf Andvari. This ring however was unlike any other as it had the power to find and procure large amounts of wealth for whomever had it in their possession. In an attempt to pay off a ransom due to an accidental killing, Loki forced Andvari to hand over all his wealth, which included the magical ring.
Loki, unmoved by the pleas of Andvari to let him keep the ring, forced the issue and took the ring for himself. Angered by the actions of Loki, Andvari cursed the ring stating "this ring and this gold should be the destruction of him who received it."
