Mjöllnir was forged by the dwarven brothers Brokkr and Eitri (or Sindri). Brokkr and Eitri made this legendary weapon as one of a set of three gifts which included Draupnir and Gullinbursti.
They made these gifts in accordance with a bet Loki made saying that Brokkr and Eitri could not make better gifts than the three made by the Sons of Ivaldi. Loki was so confident he would win the bet that he even bet his own head that he would be victorious! Turning himself into a fly and watching the dwarves make the items, Loki began to panic at the pristine quality of the items being made.
In a desperate attempt to halt the progress and ruin the final item Loki immediately stung Brokkr’s eyelid, and the blood blocked the dwarf’s eye, preventing him from properly seeing his work. Sindri produced a hammer of unsurpassed quality, which never missed its mark and would boomerang back to its owner after being thrown, but it had one flaw: the handle was short.
Although disappointed in the size of the handle, Sindri came up with the brilliant idea to create an item to honor his achievement in creating Mjöllnir, and thus made this beautiful mug! With Mjöllnir's short handle and miniature versions of Draupnir wrapped around it, Brokkr and Eitri invite you take home with you a piece of their work!
